DEFINITIONS OF VARIOUS MEDICAL TERMS

• Allergist
  A physician specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of allergies.
• Cardiologist
  a specialist in the structure and function and disorders of the heart
• Chiropractic
  A system of therapy in which disease is considered the result of abnormal function of the nervous system. The method of treatment usually involves manipulation of the spinal column and other body structures.
• Dermatologist
  a doctor who specializes in the physiology and pathology of the skin

• Endocrinology
  Science of dealing with endocrine glands. Endocrine refers to the system of glands that secrete harmones directly into the blood-stream, such as the pituitary or thyroid glands.
• Endoscopy
  examination of the interior of a hollow body organ by use of an endoscope (Endoscope is an instrument for examining visually
  the interior of a bodily canal or a hollow organ such as the colon, bladder, or stomach.)
• Gastroenterologist
  Doctor who specialises in the branch of medicine dealing with the study of disorders affecting the stomach, intestines, and associated organs.
• Gynaecologist
  Specialist in the branch of medicine that deals with the diseases and hygiene of women
• Neonatologist
  The branch of pediatrics that deals with the diseases and care of newborn infants
• Neurologist
  a medical specialist in the nervous system and the disorders affecting it
• Obstetrics
  The branch of medicine that deals with the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the recuperative period following delivery.
• Orthodontist
  a dentist specializing in the prevention or correction of irregularities of the teeth
• Orthopaedics
  The branch of medicine that deals with the prevention or correction of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints, and ligaments.
• Paediatrician
  a specialist in the care of babies
• Physician
